Aruba New Year's Eve

Aruba Bound
New Year's in Aruba is brought in with a huge bang. There is a tradition on the island of lighting firecrackers and fireworks on New Year's Eve. The noise of the firecrackers and fireworks are thought to rid oneself of the evil spirits from the past year in order to begin the New Year anew.

The pagara, a string of Chinese firecrackers is one of the popular parts of the Aruban culture. The story has it that the longer the length of the pagara, the more successful the family or business has been in the past year. Thus the more money you have, the longer length of pagara you are able to afford to purchase.

Tamarijn Aruba Advice

aruba bound
Comment on the internet: "Very stressed about all of the recent reviews of the Tamarijn!"

Major stress concerns

1) Bad repetitive food.
2) Having to wake up at 7 to reserve a hut for the day
3) Having to be in a long line at 7:45 AM to make reservations for restaurants.
4) Overall messiness in the resort
5) Rude staff

Menus at the buffet rotate everyday and are repeated every seven days. In other words, what is served on Monday is served the following week on Monday. Yes, maybe repetitive for those who are there for more than 7 days. On the other hand, how many different selections can you have for breakfast? There is a WIDE variety of items at lunch as well, though some are "staples" everyday such as the salad bar. To their credit, the salad bar rotates about 6 offerings though the "toppings", dressings and of course lettuce are always the same. Hot dogs are served daily. If you choose to eat a hot dog everyday it WILL be repetitive.

“Boca Bubu” A Local Site Worth Visiting

Every Summer vacation, once a week, we go on an outing with the kids to relax and to teach them a little of our culture. Last week Tuesday was no exception. We went to the Historical Museum and afterwards to the beach.

The kids wanted to go to Malmok, where there is a cliff they can jump off and into the water. Upon arrival there we met with Mr. Bubu Marchena working hard with sledgehammer and chisel in the hot sun. He told us he is busy constructing a staircase on the cliff to make it easier to enter and exit the water. This is the second time he is making this staircase, as in 1978 he constructed the original one but with time it eroded and disappeared. Many times he takes his grandchildren to swim there and he promised them to rebuild the staircase.

America is now the "no-vacation nation." According to a recent Reuters poll, a little over half of American workers (57 percent) use their full vacation allotment.

Even when Americans do manage to pull themselves away from work to travel domestically or to cities abroad, they manage to remain plugged in just in case the boss needs a report written or a last-minute project completed. This defeats the purpose of a vacation--leaving work and worries behind to relax, de-stress, and unwind.

For our latest trip to Aruba, we went with the Pacsafe system for the first time and loved it! Though it was not cheap, we will get many years use out of it and now that we have actually used it, knowing the security it provided, we feel that it was money very well spent. It served the dual purpose as a carry on for air travel to Aruba as well as beach bag each day.

This was dh's first time traveling with a backpack and he LOVED it. He will never go back to his wheeled carry on and separate computer bag EVER again. His Pacsafe backpack had a separate padded compartment solely for the 15" laptop. TSA security has always been difficult for him trying to juggle the laptop and this made it so much easier.

How Has the Weather Been in Aruba? Typically Ordinary

There have been passing rain showers. Far from anything to ruin a vacation.

Rain in Aruba falls mainly over night and early in the morning. That is not to say you will not have a passing shower during the day however they are usually brief and generally last 10-20 minutes. We hardly ever leave the beach during a shower taking cover under a beach palapa or going into the ocean.

Jenny & Mateusz exchange vows at sunset

PALM BEACH - Jenny Giordano and Mateusz Kipczak were married on Palm Beach just before the sun gently set into the Caribbean Sea. Family and friends witnessed the exchange of rings and vows as Jenny and Mateusz united in matrimony with their emotional toes-in-the-sand ceremony.

Jenny went to Florence a year and a half ago to work and met Mateusz by chance.  It was love at first sight for both of them! Mateusz proposed to Jenny near Ponte Vecchio a year to the day of having met her there. Jenny already had it in her heart for years to exchange her vows in Aruba - a place that she has been visiting over the past thirteen years.

Romance in Aruba With Your Soulmate

Aruba Bound
1. A bottle of Verve Cliquot, only the best for this occasion, at sunset from the California Lighthouse or anywhere else along the beaches of the west side of Aruba.

2. Dinner on the beach at the Flying Fishbone or Passions at the Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort or on the terrace at the Sunset Grille at the Radisson- here, for more privacy, make sure you request the table on the northwest corner of the terrace. Sunset can be beautiful at any of these locations, we prefer after dark with the tradewinds rustling through the palm trees and moon and stars overhead. But sunset from any of these locations, Passions especially, is nice as well.

Construction of Aruba Linear Park to Begin

"January 18th, 2011

The Aruba Linear Park is scheduled to commence construction this week with Ministers Oduber and Sevinger kicking off this milestone. It is poised to become the largest one of its kind in the Caribbean with a total length of ten miles, extending from the Reina Beatrix Airport to Arashi Beach beyond the Marriott Resort. Because of the millions of Aruban florins that this will cost, the government has decided to build it in phases. The first phase will extend from the Las Americas Rotonde (traffic circle) near the Cas di Cultura up to Wilhelmina Park near Renaissance Marketplace, with a price tag of 4.8 million Aruban florins.

"The major portion of the funds for this project will be available from the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEF), generated partially from hotel room tax receipts.

ALTO VISTA – Recently a total of 24 employees from De Palm Tours volunteered to clean up the area around The Chapel of Alto Vista and Boca Pos de Noord, one of the many bays located along the island’s rugged north coast. The employees were divided into two groups, with several volunteers heading to the historic Alto Vista Chapel with lawnmowers and weed whackers to mow the grass that had grown tall thanks to the heavy rainfall that the island experienced in November and December. Waist-high weeds were also trimmed to form a carpet of green surrounding the chapel.
