Record number of participants at the Donkey Walk 2012

The seventh edition of the Donkey Walk was record-breaking: more than 300 participants walked the 6.5 kilometer-long distance. The starting point was the Ayo rock formation and at 5 pm the impressive parade went underway, accompanied by two lovely donkeys and various police on motorbikes. Safety was a number one priority and the police was out in force, with a police car and an ambulance making up the rear. Crossroads had been closed off and everything went perfectly and according to plan.

This year’s local sponsor Fantastic Garden surprised all participants with a plant and at the finish there was a raffle with Fantastic Garden gift certificates. At the finish there was fresh fruit for the tired athletes, donated by SuperFood.

The Donkey Walk was not just a walk: a number of runners also competed. In this category it was Gino Hodge who came in first in 21 minutes; Shariska Winterdal finished first in the Women’s Category in 26 minutes. Finishing last were the donkeys with their companions: after an hour and a half they crossed the finish line, enjoying a spectacular sunset.

All were wearing great big smiles, as the Donkey Walk had been a blast and a big success.
