A wonderful way to spend your spare time!

Aruba Bound

For fifteen years now, Aruban donkeys have been sheltered at the local Donkey Sanctuary, which is run by volunteers. A group of about fifty volunteers of different nationalities is taking care of the donkeys and of the Sanctuary as well. Besides that, many of the volunteers participate in activities to raise funds. The volunteers form a nice group that enjoys working together for the well-being of the Aruban donkeys.

Yankee is looking for friends and family members

Aruba Bound
We would like to introduce Yankee to you: one of the donkeys that are living at the Aruban Donkey Sanctuary. He is a youngster, for he is only one year old. His mom Riba delivered him when she had a broken hind leg. We feared the day that the donkey baby would be born, but fortunately everything went right. Yankee has the same trait as Riba: he is shy and does not like to be petted. That is very unusual, for donkeys mostly love a good hug. This donkey is a mama’s boy: he goes wherever she is going.

She’s is back “Bati Bleki” by Rona Coster

September 10th, 2012
  • SHE’S BACK. Sometimes in 2005 I dropped my Bati Bleki column in the Diario, I don’t remember why, maybe because some editor stuck it in the back of the newspaper, adjacent to the obituaries instead of its regular spot on page 14. The column ran in the Diario since mid April of 1994, imagine, before cell phones, and high-speed internet, definitely before Facebook and social media, and then the column died, though many people continued to remind me, it was part of their Monday routine which they cherished. So, here we are, I am making a comeback, with a weekly column loaded with unnecessary yet entertaining information; same time, same place. If Diario is sold out, catch it in the Aruba Daily. Send me your print-worthy news to rc@visitaruba.com , my ears are always wide open and my computer always on!

Cowboy is Looking for Friends & Family Members

Aruba Bound
We would like to introduce Cowboy to you; he is one of the donkeys that find a home at the Aruban Donkey Sanctuary. Thirteen years ago we received a phone call about an injured donkey that had a metal can wrapped around his leg. This was at Vader Piet, the area where the windmills are located. We tried to find the donkey, but we could not locate him. As there were often donkeys at Vader Piet, we regularly went there to feed the animals. One Sunday we saw a group of people standing around a donkey

Wrinkle Free Packing

Dh and I held a "pack off" when he did not believe me that you could fit more rolled than he could folded. I won. I think it is pretty much a proven fact that not only does it save space, but also cuts down on wrinkles.

6 Tips for Wrinkle-Free Packing

From my years working in retail I have varied the instructions just a bit for folding.

For T-shirts, place face down, fold arms back plus an additional 2"-3" (depending upon the size of the shirt), take the rectangle and roll starting at the collar.

Kodak is looking for friends and family members

Aruba Bound
We would like to introduce Kodak to you, one of the donkeys that find a home at the Aruban Donkey Sanctuary. It all started with a phone call that a severely injured donkey was roaming the area surrounding the Natural Bridge. Once there, it appeared that the donkey was badly wounded in his hind leg; it proved to be the much-feared screw worm, a disease where a fly lays eggs in a small wound. The worms then eat their way through the healthy flesh surrounding the wound, hereby causing it to grow larger and larger. Kodak was one of the first animals that was suffering from screw worm: something which is nothing to cheer about. It is also a very painful disease, so Kodak stood on just three legs during his first month at the Sanctuary.
