Prizes galore for the new Aruban Donkey Sanctuary

Aruba Bound
The realization of the much-needed new donkey sanctuary at Bringamosa is around the corner. More than 140 donkeys will be overjoyed with their spacious new playground and sparkling buildings. At this time the donkeys are spread out across several locations on the island; some even dwelling in a private garden. The best-known donkey location is Santa Lucia, where throngs of visitors and locals visit the donkeys. Through the years, Santa Lucia has become one of Aruba’s main tourist attractions, but it has become too cramped for so many animals. A new, larger donkey sanctuary is needed, but it is an expensive undertaking. Fundraisings and sponsoring are of the essence.

Aramis would like some friends and family members

Aruba Bound
We would like to introduce Aramis to you, one of the donkeys that has found a home at the Aruba Donkey Sanctuary. We have never seen a donkey that was so easily accepted by the herd as Aramis. Normally it takes quite a while before the herd accepts a newcomer, but with Aramis and his friend Ninja it went without a hitch. We only separated them for one night, but one noticed that the herd was not opposed to this gorgeous, dark grey donkey. So put into the herd, and loving every moment at the Aruba Donkey Sanctuary. Aramis can look forward to staying a long, long time with us, as he is just four years old.

Amadeus would welcome friends and family members

Aruba Bound
We would like to introduce Amadeus to you, a donkey that has found a home at the Aruba Donkey Sanctuary. Two weeks after his mother Bunny and big bro Maestro were brought in at the sanctuary, little Amadeus was born. The volunteers at the sanctuary knew that Bunny was pregnant, but they did not know when the happy occasion of Amadeus’ birth would be. Pregnancy in donkeys takes between 11 and 14 months. When the volunteers came into the corral in the morning, a healthy, cute donkey boy was curiously looking at them.

At this time the ratio between male and female donkeys is 60-40, so the ladies are loving the attention. They are thriving!

When in Aruba

The Caribbean has its own diverse culture and ethnic groups; as a result there are foods which are indigenous and distinct to each island.

When in Aruba, you must try the Keshi Yena. Dh is an amateur chef and does all the cooking at home. Here is his recipe which he has adapted over the years since we have been visiting Aruba. Keshi Yena gives us a taste of Aruba at home.

A Flight Reminder

Aruba Bound
Once you have made your flight reservations, check your itinerary at least once a week.

Though we have notification set up in case there are any changes, we were not notified of time changes on both of our upcoming Aruba flights. We still have 6 months to go before we depart so will not be surprised if flight times change again.

I also check to ensure that we still have our seat assignments. One of the other times when we flew over the Christmas holidays, Delta changed the equipment larger planes and assigned seats for everyone were lost. Again, we received no notification but saw it because we kept an eye on it. Luckily, we were able to grab new seats, together for our family of three.

Amadeus Restaurant Aruba

From our review-
Amadeus was one of the highlights for “new found places” for us out of all of our dinners while on the island.

Besides the serene ambiance of the restaurant, the soothing classical music was a nice compliment to the 17th century décor. Dd, a fledgling musician, loved the Mozart theme and we all loved the Austrian cuisine. This restaurant on the island of Aruba, of all places, is definitely a refreshing change of fare.
The quality of the food and service were even more remarkable! Frank was an attentive, but not overbearing host. Without doubt try his blended liquor, the Lost Symphony. It is a unique and delectable blend of Cocoa, Vanilla and Almond.
Appetizers-- Escargot, Coconut Breaded Shrimp, Austrian Goulash Soup
Entrees-- Lobster Newburgh, Beef Stroganoff, Braised Beef Steak
Dessert-- Sacher Torte, Fresh Strawberries, Chocolate gelato sundae

Christmas in Aruba 2013

Aruba Bound
Up Next

For those who have been following my blog over the years, my grandmother has always taken our entire family away for Christmas and sometimes even New Years. Over the past nine years we have cruised the entire Caribbean and Central America. We visited Aruba for a land vacation twice. Following my mother and grandmothers passing late last year, my father has continued the tradition. This past Christmas and New Years we cruised the Eastern and Western Caribbean aboard Celebrity Cruise Line's Sihouette.
