The first copy of the 2018 Donkey Calendar was handed out to Bucuti Beach Resort

Aruba Bound
Exactly on October 4th, (World Animal Day), the first copy of the 2018 Donkey Calendar was handed out. This year the honor went to Mr. Biemans, CEO of the prestigious Bucuti and Tara Beach Resort, one of the crown jewels of Aruba's hotels.

Mr. Biemans is known as a very conscientious person that is very concerned with Aruba's natural environment. He is always willing to contribute to the Donkey Sanctuary whenever asked. Mr.Biemans was not on the island to receive his calendar, so the honor went to Bucuti Resort Mgr. Mr.Rick van den Berg.

Desiree Eldering of the Donkey Sanctuary, was proud to hand Mr. v/d Berg the first copy. And all this under the watchful eyes of volunteers and donkeys.

The new 2018 Donkey Calendar is beautiful and colorful. Printed on thick A3 format paper, this calendar is full of important local and international information. Also included are local activities such as the 2018 Carnival schedule and feast days. The calendar cost fls. 25.00 and is available at Superfood, Veterinary Contreras, En Vogue Coiffures , and also at the Donkey Sanctuary in Bringamosa. All proceeds from the calendar goes directly to the donkeys. And the cost of printing the calendar is funded totally by the 12 sponsors whose name appears on the calendar.

Brimmed Hat for Sun Protection

Aruba Bound
This is our recommendation on hats for protection against the sun! SPF 145 and drawstring so you are not swimming after your hat!

Our family wears Ultimate Tropical Hat $19.00 with air holes for breathability as well as built in SPF protection.

I used to wear a baseball cap, but no matter the amount of sun screen I used, the tops of my ears were always sunburned.

The Ultimate hat with their wide brim has solved that problem. Draw strings on the hats for windy days as well.

TSA raising aviation security baseline with stronger domestic security measures

New U.S. airport screening procedures for carry-on bags to better focus on threats

WASHINGTON– Wednesday, July 26, 2017- To ensure the security of airline passengers and the nation’s airports, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is implementing new, stronger screening procedures for carry-on items that require travelers to place all electronics larger than a cell phone in bins for X-ray screening in standard lanes. Following extensive testing and successful pilots at 10 airports, TSA plans to expand these measures to all U.S. airports during the weeks and months ahead.

Due to an increased threat to aviation security, DHS Secretary John Kelly announced in late June new security requirements for nearly 280 airports in more than 100 countries. In an effort to raise the baseline for aviation security worldwide, TSA continues to work closely with airports and airlines to enhance security measures and stay ahead of the evolving threat.

The Donkey Sanctuary at Bringamosa is officially open!

Aruba Bound

The new Aruba Donkey Sanctuary at Bringamosa is officially open! Quite a lot of cheerful visitors to the Donkey Fair viewed the opening ceremony, which was done by the six volunteers, who started the sanctuary twenty years ago. Honorary guests Ramon and Maria Boekhoudt, Mevine Kock and Stewart Willems, Facundo Franken, Chito Paris and Johnnie Fingal cut a veggie cake and distributed it among the donkeys present as the official opening ceremony. Thus the move to Bringamosa, which offers the 130 donkeys and the 25.000 visitors a year a wonderful new location and the 20th anniversary of the sanctuary were jointly celebrated.

The Aruban Donkey Sanctuary organizes a wonderful raffle

Aruba Bound
Twenty years ago, in the month of April, the Aruba Donkey Sanctuary opened its doors. At the time there were many roaming herds of donkeys and the growing number of accidents with donkeys, injured donkeys and donkey abuse was the reason that a group of concerned local people got together to protect the animals. This was the start of the Aruba Donkey Sanctuary. Ten donkeys from Pos Chiquito were the first to be relocated to a safe haven; twenty years later the Sanctuary offers food and shelter to 130 donkeys. Volunteers take care of the herd, which has become one of the island’s major tourist attractions.

The twelfth Donkey Walk was a blast

Aruba Bound
Aruba’s Donkey Sanctuary twelfth Donkey Walk was a blast this past weekend. A whopping 227 paying participants conquered the more than 5 kilometer-long route through gorgeous natural terrain.

The starting point was the new Donkey Sanctuary at Bringamosa, which also doubled as the finish. The hill-studded route had a watering point halfway.
Everyone enjoyed not only a great walk, but also a very safe one as donkeys Diva and Igor, the Aruban police force and the local Red Cross took care of that department. At the finish wonderful, enthusiastic comments could be heard from the participants, who were received in the brand-new Visitors’ Center at the Sanctuary and who were treated to fruit and nuts (courtesy of SuperFood and Leon Trading). As most athletes stayed quite a long while afterwards, they went home at sunset.

As a surprise all participants of this year’s 20th anniversary walk received a super Stylos ballpoint, with the text `Donkey Sanctuary Aruba 1997 – 2017’. Twenty years ago a group of volunteers started to catch and house the many roaming donkeys on the island. And, as they say: the rest is history.

Nowadays the Donkey Sanctuary has become one of the best-known and most-loved tourist attractions with its 130 donkeys. The housing and feeding costs are covered by donations and fundraising activities, such as this Walk, which has generated AWG. 2.270,-- ($1273.76 USD) (ten florins $5.61 USD per person).

This is such a great initiative: giving everyone a chance to enjoy a nature walk while supporting the Donkey Sanctuary at the same time!
