A Nation Challenged

Aruba Bound
Time is passing. Yet for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.~ George W. Bush

The 8 Safest Travel Destinations in the Caribbean Right Now

Aruba Bound
"Is the Caribbean safe?" The answer is yes — but it depends where you're going. By and large, travelers are unlikely to experience any major incidents on their Caribbean vacation no matter where they go. However, murder and violent crime rates are higher on some islands than others. That's especially true if you're staying in urban areas on the larger islands (though even cities on smaller islands have their share of crime). LGBTQ travelers should also exercise caution, as local laws in certain nations outlaw homosexuality and create unwelcoming (and potentially dangerous) situations.

So what islands in the Caribbean are the safest? Read MORE

Presentation of the Donkey Sanctuary Aruba Calendar 2020

Aruba Bound
Coffee with cake made the presentation of the new Donkey Calendar 2020 at the sanctuary a festive affair. Well-known journalist Nico van der Zee presented the first calendar to Rona Coster, local publisher, journalist and columnist. She was chosen for this honor for her involvement in getting sponsors for the realization of the new roof for the visitor center. Her enthusiasm and drive were key for the realization of this major project.

Usually manager Desiree Eldering presents the first calendar, but she was unable to attend because of illness. Fortunately she found in Nico van der Zee a perfect representative.

US Government Shutdown & Impact to Travel

There will be no impact on travel if the United States government shuts down.

Travelers in U.S. won't see snarls from government shutdown
"(Reuters) - Air and rail travelers in the United States should not feel a big impact if Congress fails to avert a government shutdown on Tuesday, since passport inspectors, security officers and air traffic controllers will all continue to work as usual.

9-11 & A Heavy Heart Once Again

Aruba Bound
It has taken me this many years since September 11, 2001 to write this post. 9-11 did not affect everyone in our country, but it touched many.

So let me say that this year on 9-11 I will share the story of a couple of men, brothers, from my hometown. They were nephews of friends of my parents. Their grandmother was friends with my grandmother and lived at the house down the street, on the corner, from my Aunt. I have known this family my entire life. Enough time has passed that I can finally share their story.

Just Posting a Note

It is all about transparency. I have always believed that things should be honest and done by the book.

Writers through SocialSpark are now being paid by the Aruba Tourism Authority to write about Aruba on their blogs. I have no idea how much money they receive. I doubt many, if any of the writers have even visited Aruba. But just as a note to all of my blog's fans, this writer accepts no payment or compensation for any of the mentions, articles or recommendations I make on the blog or on my website.

Ad earnings from all of my blogs and websites go towards paying for server space and domain registrations costs for my websites. The Aruba Bound! site is my main site, however my other sites such as Weddings in Aruba do not earn enough money in ads to pay their own way for hosting so Aruba Bound! supplements the cost.

My dh and I foot the bill for the difference, including of course our travel to Aruba including accommodations, airfare and meals. We love Aruba pure and simple.

I just wanted to be upfront with all of my readers.

I will make a tribute on September 11.
I will not forget you.
I will remember by doing.
